Imagine you are an old waiter who works with a young waiter in a well lit cafe. The old waiter is reluctant to close shop but the young waiter only seems to care about him self and wants to close early. The old are much kinder than the young.
the old waiter in the short story was very kind when it came to the old man because he was old and had no wife. he likes to keep the shop open late for the people who don't have a family to go home to. The old waiter believes people, when they are sad they like a well lighted place to drink so he runs the cafe for a long time.
There was a young waiter who believed money brought happiness not a wife even though he is married. He is a narcissistic young man who likes to close up the cafe early and doesn't care about anyone ells. when someone comes in late at night he wants them to go somewhere ells.
I would rather be served by the old waiter than the young waiter. The young have little life experience while the old are very wise
